Record Jointer Plane No. 07

The Record no. 07 jointer plane is a 22" (55.9cm) long plane designed for accurate shooting of long edges such as joining the boards for table and counter tops etc. The accuracy of this plane coupled with the long sole simplify and speed up this kind of work. The plane is fitted with a 2 3/8" (6.1cm) blade and weighs in at around 3.63kg (8lbs). This plane is also known as a try plane.

The older C & J Hampton Record planes have quite a following of late from both users and collectors. From observing the sale of secondhand Record planes and Stanley planes, we have noticed Record planes generally command slightly higher prices than their Stanley equivalent plane of the period. These Record 07 planes were probably the second most used number '7' model of the 20th century behind the Stanley no. 7 equivalent.

Number 7 jointer planes are still being made; model number '7' planes which are made today include Stanley, Irwin Record, Clifton, Veritas and Lie-Nielsen.
