The Record 1366 plane is a narrow bull nose rabbet plane designed for planing little awkward areas which appear during cabinet work and alike.

The No. 1366 is a 3" (7.6cm) nickel plated plane with a rosewood wedge and fitted with a 3/8" (9mm) tungsten steel cutter. This plane weighs approximately 5 ounces.

This plane is quite rare, especially in very good condition and even more so with the original Record box.

The Preston 1366 And The Record 1366 Planes

record 1366 plane

The design of the Record 1366 plane was made to an almost identical specification as to its Preston 1366 plane predecessor. The only visual differences between the two planes being the shape of the wedge and the markings on either side of the plane. The Record 1366 has the markings 'Record' on one side and 'No 1366' on the other side where as the Preston 1366 has the 'cherry' symbol on both sides.

A new version of this plane can still be purchased today; the Clifton No. 400 rebate plane is an almost identical copy of the Preston plane version.

Is The Record 1366 Plane Rare?

record 1366 plane box

The Record 1366 is considered quite a rare plane due to its short manufacturing period and due to the limited number of these planes which appear on the market today. As with most antique and collectable items, condition is everything when trying to achieve the highest price, as is the case with this plane. A 1366 in almost new like condition with all of the nickel plating makes the plane even rarer and a lot more valuable to a collector.

The box for the 1366 is very rare, especially a box which is in good condition with a legible trade label.
